Youssofzay + Hart is an architecture practice based in Sydney specialising in cultural, residential and commercial projects. The practice was launched in 2017 following an architectural competition win for the NSW Office of the Government Architect.
Led by directors Belqis Youssofzay and David Hart, the practice derives its design ethos from sensitivity to the environment and a close reading and celebration of landscape.
Through the design of exemplar housing projects, the practice seeks to address issues of population growth within our cities, including housing affordability, densification and resource use. Y + H also offer specialty consultancy in gallery, museum and exhibition design for major cultural institutions around Sydney. Through their cultural works, they are able to pursue their interests and ideas relating to public and community space.
Belqis’ expertise is in cultural projects, predominantly exhibition and gallery design, with over 11 years’ experience in the public sector. She was the in-house architect for the Art Gallery of NSW for 4 years prior to establishing Y + H. In 2015 she was awarded the prestigious Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship to research 37 leading international art institutions and museums.
David is an architect with 12 years’ experience in civic and commercial architecture and has completed a number of highly awarded public buildings in Australia. His past projects have been awarded two World Architecture Festival prizes in addition to numerous local industry awards.
They are both passionate teachers engaged with the Architecture and Interior Architecture programs at the University of NSW and University of Technology Sydney.
